Old,but still useful..

It's odd how as years go by we get rid of some things, while other items are laid aside or just forgotten about. I have given away, sold in yard sales, or simply tossed in the trash many items no longer wanted or needed over the years. But the other day while I was having a forgetful moment as I tried to spell a simple word (aging does that to some of us),I pulled from the bookcase a Funk & Wagnalls standard desk dictionary, given to me as a gift in 1975. The pages had turned yellow with thirty one years of aging, but the cover was still in good shape. And it was still useful in refreshing an aging mind of a simple word, a ten year old could spell, but for a fleeting moment the mind of a fifty five year old simply could not........oh by the way the word was, occlusive.

Vermont

All my life I've felt as if I have an inner connection to the state of Vermont. I have no idea why. I have no memory of any past or present family member talking of ancestors being from Vermont. So what could have me so fascinated with the state?
I saw Irving Berlin's Oscar winning movie, 'White Christmas',starring Bing Crosby,Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney, years ago. It's one of my favorite movies, but could it have given me the connection I feel for Vermont, I don't think so.
I have enjoyed the searching, reading and viewing photos online and who knows someday, I may get the opportunity to visit Vermont in person. Between now and then maybe I'll figure out the connection...

Along the river..............

One of my favorite past-times is going down to the River Front Park to sit and watch people, as well as the boats that go up and down the Arkansas River.
This past week I had the pleasure of seeing a large steam/paddle-wheel boat, which was docked to allow it's passengers to tour the city. It came from Ohio, stopping in New Orleans ,then docking overnight in North Little Rock and was headed to St.Louis the next day. I envied the passengers as they sat on the top deck drinking their ice tea , discussing their recent tour of our city and the next sights they'd see. As the boat pulled away some of it's passengers waved to those of us on the river bank. As I waved back I couldn't help but think how beautiful and romantic a sunset must be from the top deck each afternoon.

Family get togethers.........

I spent the day with people who love me and still consider me family, even though that tie was broken eighteen years ago(divorce). I had a great time and hated to see the day end. There were horse shoes thrown, croquet mallets used in the game , as well as balanced on finger-tips ( game we made up), a football tossed and lots of good conversation. There was lots of food, and yes I over ate, especially when it came to the desserts! ( I'm weak around sweets) When I drove away my heart was full and I smiled thinking how blessed I am in still being a part of this family.
