Fishing...

Today I went with my sister, her husband and a friend fishing for trout on the Little Red River. We had no luck in catching anything, but the trip was filled with nice scenery, good conversation and lots of laughs. We saw an amazing thing while sitting on the bank of the river, a chocolate Lab was fishing! This dog would stand at the edge of the bank and look into the water and watch for a trout to swim by. Then he would dive in and come out with a trout! He'd lay the trout on the bank in the grass and go back to the edge and watch for another fish. If anyone started toward his catch he would bark or growl. It was the most amazing thing to watch.I wish I would have had a video camera to record it all, because I know it's hard to believe. There was also a mother cat there who sat on the bank and waited for boats to come into the dock. It seems fishermen have been cleaning their catch and feeding her the discarded parts and she knew to sit and wait on the boats at that spot.We never saw her kittens but assumed they were close by when she'd disappear for five or ten minutes and then reappear. It was a really enjoyable day and I'm hoping there will be another fishing trip soon. Maybe the next time the Lab will not be the only one to catch fish!

Mother's Day..

This past Sunday was Mother's Day and I spent it at my sister's. There were three mothers there,my sister, her two daughters and myself. My sister's youngest daughter celebrated her first year as a new mom to baby Nick.
My sister and I reminisced about our mother, sharing a sad moment and some happy tales too.As each mother unwrapped gifts I watched and thought to myself,my Mother's Day gift would come when I received a phone call from my only son. No bought gift can compare to hearing your child's voice over the phone when he's many miles away in another country and you have not seen him in five months. The call came that afternoon and another Mother's Day was complete for me.
